Revitalization: The Buzz Word in Palmyra

Palmyra faced the same challenges that many communities experience today: an increase in traffic, loss of employment and shopping opportunities, and shifts in population. Through the planning process, RETTEW helped the borough to identify, understand, and develop strategies to manage these changes in growth and development. RETTEW introduced a mixed-use commerce land classification to promote a compatible combination of light industrial, professional, multi-family residential, and commercial uses in an environment where each would complement the other while enhancing and protecting the central core of the borough. The plan included downtown development efforts to encourage downtown activity and establish a renewed sense of place for community residents. In an effort to decrease vehicle traffic, RETTEW also identified ways to encourage pedestrian traffic and the use of public transit. The plan was adopted by the council, and resulting activities continue to revitalize this community.
