Library Square Makes a Comeback
From its heyday in the early 1900's as a healthy working-class neighborhood to its decline in the 1960's when suburban living became fashionable, Library Square was destined to make a comeback. Since Baltimore's waterfront has experienced a rebirth, the timing could not be better. Located in East Baltimore, Library Square is a four-block strip of greenspace anchored on the east by Enoch Public Library and surrounded by a mix of residential and commercial spaces. RETTEW's design team held a public charrette at Library Square to develop a master plan, which will be used as a guideline to influence current projects and to direct future development and revitalization efforts. Local stakeholders, residents, and city officials were included in the design effort.
