Plan Update Establishes Framework for Countywide Zoning

 

Potter County's goals for this plan update involved strengthening the county's relationship with its 31 municipalities, developing and proposing new land-use strategies, and maintaining quality of life. The predominantly rural nature of the county presented some interesting challenges in creating and adopting an effective plan. Instrumental to the process was RETTEW's interaction among the county's municipalities and school districts. Also integral were the mutually supportive processes used to maintain the delicate relationship between the county's largest employer and the need to diversity the existing economic base. Additionally, RETTEW's outreach program helped identify projects to be included in the County's transportation improvement program and facilitated an open line of communication between the County's planning office and municipalities. The future land-use plan supports investment in infrastructure improvements in designated growth areas and provides a framework for countywide zoning.
