Getting Stakeholders "On Board" Generates Well-Rounded Vision

In light of housing pressures pushing north from the Baltimore metropolitan area, RETTEW worked alongside representatives from 12 Fulton County municipalities to provide a framework for regional decisions relating to growth and development, providing public services and facilities, and protecting natural resources. The County Conservation District, the Shippensburg University Land Use Center, and the Department of Community and Economic Development also helped to explore alternatives for revitalizing the region's villages without compromising its rural traditions. RETTEW's unique approach to this project began with a bus tour of the region, allowing the municipalities to literally show participating state agency representatives and County Commissioners areas deemed to be of most importance. Tour participants received a full-color, eight-page newsletter that educated them on planning concepts. RETTEW also conducted design charrettes to create a more interactive and visually representative planning process. The resulting plan was recognized by 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania as 1 of only 14 plans to be featured across the state for its excellence in regional land use management and multi-municipal cooperation.
