Balance Between Growth and Preservation Achieved

 

 

The proximity of Antrim Township and Greencastle Borough to Maryland and to substantial transportation routes resulted in tremendous development pressure for the region. Increased growth produced several undesirable byproducts, such as loss of farmland and open space, traffic congestion, and increased demands on municipal services and infrastructure. The township, borough, and school district joined forces with RETTEW to develop a plan that would balance growth and development in this region. RETTEW developed a community comprehensive plan update that balances growth with agricultural preservation, transportation and infrastructure improvements, downtown Greencastle enhancements, and municipal services upgrades. Through a process of public involvement and core planning concepts, RETTEW created a plan that proactively addresses growth while still retaining the small-town appeal of Greencastle Borough and the open space in Antrim Township.
