Newberry Township: A Role Model for Greener Living

Newberry Township experienced extreme growth between 1930 and 1980 that roughly doubled with each decade. The ill effects of this population growth have come in the form of inadequate sewer, water, park and recreation, and emergency services. One of the Township's major goals was to preserve and enhance rural and natural land uses. RETTEW developed a conservation subdivision design overlay that allows new residential development to occur in a manner that protects 50 to 60 percent of important natural features such as woodland, farmland, stream corridors, and wetlands in larger, interconnected greenway and open space areas. Green has never looked better!
